As a person with fibromyalgia, I cannot understand why neurologists are not taking a more aggressive interest in it. My experience with fibro leads me to believe it a neurological problem and not something that should be treated mainly by a rheumatologist. Please consider how the pain, fatigue, fibro fog, and other symptoms can be explained by looking at it from a neurological view.

I read your article on fibromyalgia with annoyed familiarty. The condensation, class bias, blame the patient mentality, and of couse let’s not forget the malingering depressed who always lie to get drugs. I’ve shared on a number of ocassions, this demeaning behavior from neurologists and orthopedists who were unable to diagnose my spinal stenosis and dismissed me even though I suffered horrific pain and agony. I wasn’t a trial lawyer,
but I had performed my job with distinction. Luckily I went to a top hospital in NYC and had surgery (3) with a world renowned orthopedist who helped me. It is still no picnic, I have chronic pain and must take opiates to make my life bearable and I assume that will be forever. I assure you, we chronic painers hate medication, but we want to function.
Dr. Kissel seems oblivious to his pompous, denigrating, portrayal of patients who have real pain and suffering, merely because he can’t figure it out. Thank heavens for researchers like Dr. Judy A. Mikovits, whose article was just published in the journal Science and exposes a virus XMRV as a significant contributor, if not the single one responsible for the DISEASE called Fibromyalgia.
